About me
I’m a co-owner and head coach at Devilfish Athletes in Brooklyn, New York. We are a semi-private strength training facility focused on helping adults learn how to train and move well. We opened our doors in October 2019 (yes, right before Covid!) and have an incredible community here in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.
Who I work with:
I specialize in working with adults ages 35+. They’re busy professionals, parents, and people who are interested in the “why” behind what they’re doing. My clients are often new to training or are trying to rebuild their training practice after time off. They want training to be part of their lives, but not the center of it.
At Devilfish Athletics, we utilize simple yet proven training practices to build strength, improve mobility, and feel better. We simplify training and teach people how to build a sustainable fitness practice. I’ve worked with new moms, never-been athletes, ex-athletes, current amateur and recreational athletes (endurance runners, tennis players, Muay Thai athletes, and more), fitness enthusiasts, and those who have been too intimidated to join a gym.
The common thread is people who want help with their training and are ready to get started.
Why I coach:
I became a personal trainer in 2013 and began this career alongside my other work a research assistant for several developmental psychology projects. I’ve always been interested in understanding why people do what they do, and how to help them overcome obstacles. However, instead of talking about what they needed and analyzing their behaviors, I wanted to help them take action and begin making moves towards change.
I know how intimidating gyms and athletics of any kind can be. I was the kid in the outfield in high school softball and the kid who was never played in volleyball. (Fun fact: I actually fell into the ring for my first Muay Thai competition!) That being said, I also know what it feels like to face these struggles head-on and come out on the other side feeling more confident, empowered, and free. Training has the ability to change lives. I’ve been lucky to see this first-hand. My goal is to help you achieve what you never thought was possible. Are you ready to get started?
My personal athletic background:
I’ve been training in one form or another since I was six years old. I was a very shy kid so my dad enrolled me in a local kickboxing and karate school, which quickly became my passion throughout my teenage years. In my early twenties, I switched my focus to Muay Thai and competed for a bit in the amateur circuit. I’ve always enjoyed strength training and began this more seriously after developing a shoulder injury along the way on my Muay Thai journey.
After too many rounds of sparring, a few amateur fights, and too many broken noses, I decided it was time to hang up the gloves and focus on my real passion—coaching.
